Allenvale Mill Campground, Lorne

Updated on October 9, 2025

Allenvale Mill  Campground, Great Otway National Park

This was a free campground. As of Nov. 1st, 2020, fees became applicable. Bookings must be made ahead of arrival.

This is a lovely campground, close to Lorne and situated alongside the George River. It is unusual in that the campsites are only accessible by walking the 200 metres or so along a well-surfaced track, or by hiking up the tracks from Lorne, making this quite a good overnight hike.

Our only negative about the camping area is that cars are left out of sight, making them vulnerable. Do not leave valuables in vehicles if camping here.

The open aspect is pretty and sun filled with easy access to the St Georges River walking track, on the lower boundary.

To walk from Lorne to the campsite, it would take approximately 41 minutes, according to Google maps. We’d say longer as it is an uphill slog!

Basic toilets are provided on the site.

No dogs allowed (though the walking track to St Georges River and the coast is dog-friendly).

2.7 km to walk from the car parking area to the Coast.
